Acne : Causes, Precautions, and Natural Alternatives

Acne is one of the most common skin concerns. Acne can affect people of all races and all ages, most commonly adolescents and young adults. In fact, the American Academy of Dermatology reports that nearly 85% of people experience acne at some point in their lives.
Causes of Acne
There could be a variety of reasons which cause acne :
1.    Genetic

2.    Diet

3.    Allergies due to medications

4.    Excessive use of greasy beauty products, unhygienic makeup brushes

5.    Hormonal changes

6.    Environmental factors, heat, dust etc.
Our skin has pores (tiny holes) which connect to oil glands located under the skin. The glands are connected to the pores via follicles - small canals. These glands produce Sebum, an oily liquid. The sebum carries dead skin cells through the follicles to the surface of the skin. A small hair grows through the follicle out of the skin. Pimples grow when these follicles get blocked, resulting in an accumulation of oil under the skin.
These factors contribute to the formation of acne:
·         Overproduction of oil (sebum)
·         Irregular shedding of dead skin cells resulting in irritation of the hair follicles of your skin
·         Buildup of bacteria

There are various types of acne – Whiteheads, blackheads, pustules, cysts etc.

The physical and emotional impact of acne often lasts much longer than breakouts. Acne often affects your life in more ways than you realize. Freeing yourself from this troublesome problem is the best gift you can give yourself!!

How can Emu Oil help?

Emu Oil contains various essential fatty acids, including Omega-3,-6, and -9, and has the following properties:
Emu Oil is anti-bacterial

When Emu oil is applied to the skin, it helps to reduce the bacteria that contribute to the formation of pimples which helps to prevent new pimples. Also, Emu oil is non-comedogenic (does not clog skin pores) and it leave no oily residue.

Emu Oil is anti-inflammatory
The fatty acids in emu oil (linoleic acid) soothe the skin and reduce the redness making it less visible. Another benefit of emu oil for clearing acne is its ability to help promote healing of the skin. The fatty acids contained in the oil penetrate through the top layer of dead skin cells to provide nourishment to the layers within. This helps healing of blemishes, reduces scarring caused by pimples hence decreasing inflammation in acne-prone skin.

Emu Oil is a moisturizer
Emu oil has naturally moisturizing properties that help to soothe blemishes and reduce irritation. Being transdermal, Emu Oil penetrates deep into the layers of the skin thus it helps the repairing of the cells and restores the elasticity of healthy, well-moisturized skin. It is also non-irritating (hypo-allergenic) and with regular use, it has been shown to help clear acne.
